The Estate
Gruaud Larose has always sought to emphasize the role of humans in the creation of its wine—both through action and the deep connection they forge with the vineyard. The vine or the grape is nothing without people, without the makers of Crus, from the humblest to the most influential. Since its founding in 1725, four families have led Gruaud Larose: the Gruaud & Larose families, the Balguerie and Sarget families, the Cordier family, and the Merlaut family. This family spirit also extends to its employees, many of whom have worked at the château for generations, passing their craft from father to son and mother to daughter.
The Château Gruaud Larose currently cultivates its 82 hectares using sustainable agriculture with biodynamic practices, on gravelly soils.
The Wine
The hand-harvested grapes undergo strict sorting. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with extended maceration to extract color and tannins. Malolactic fermentation occurs in both tanks and barrels to refine the texture. The wine is aged for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels (80 to 100% new), with regular racking to clarify the wine.
Tasting
Here is an elegant and well-balanced Saint-Julien. On the nose, it reveals aromas of black and red fruits intertwined with notes of toasted bread, spices, and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied and fleshy, with a smooth and fresh attack, supported by silky tannins and a very fine grain. This distinguished wine, powerful yet restrained, is built for long aging.
