The Estate
The history of Château Beychevelle dates back to the 17th century, when it was owned by the Beychevelle family, a noble lineage of Gascon origin. The name "Beychevelle" is believed to come from the term "baisse voile," referring to a maritime tradition in which ships, upon approaching the port, would greet the family by lowering their sails.
In the 18th century, the estate became a place of prestige, and its wines attracted a distinguished clientele, including members of royalty. In 1821, it was ranked among the top four crus of Saint-Julien. Today, Château Beychevelle is known for its elegant and refined wines, primarily made from Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Wine
Viticulture at Château Beychevelle is based on strict soil management, with pruning and leaf thinning practices to optimize sun exposure. The vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly methods, with particular attention given to water management and natural disease protection. In winemaking, the grapes are manually sorted and then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The aging process takes place in oak barrels, using a mix of new wood and old casks to refine the aromas.
