The Estate

In the 17th century, Firmin Le Bailly and Nicolas de Leuvarde, two Parisian bankers, acquired the estate as creditors of the previous owners. Firmin Le Bailly eventually gave his name to Château Haut-Bailly. In 1872, Alcide Bellot des Minières purchased the property on the advice of Archbishop Bonnet of Bordeaux and built the current château. With his expertise, he quickly elevated Haut-Bailly wines to the highest ranks. In 1955, the estate was acquired by Daniel Sanders, whose family, now represented by Véronique Sanders, has managed the property even after its purchase by Robert Wilmers in 1998.

The Haut-Bailly vineyard is rooted in an exceptional terroir, featuring sandy soils mixed with gravel. The century-old vines, planted after the phylloxera crisis, yield a variety of grape varieties, including Cabernet Franc and Merlot, enabling the creation of renowned wines that are regularly praised by critics.

Renowned for its exceptional elegance, the Grand Vin is the fruit of a complex balance: elegant and tactile, powerful and supple, immediate and timeless. Each vintage is unique, but also adds to the lineage of Haut-Bailly wines, embodying the constancy of the estate’s terroir and style.
