Château Ausone is a centuries-old wine legend. Its history dates back to the Roman Empire, where Ausonius, the Latin poet, already cultivated vines on these lands. Since 1974, Alain Vauthier has led work marked by excellence on this small estate (7 ha) located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion. Some vines are over 70 years old, a rarity in Bordeaux due to the 1956 frost. In 2022, Ausone withdrew from the Saint-Emilion classification, where it had always been classified as 1st Grand Cru Classé "A".
Ausone has always been accessible in its youth. Made from Cabernet Franc and Merlot, it's a wine that nonetheless remains suitable for long-term aging. The fruit and tertiary aromas (coffee, toast, cinnamon) harmonize wonderfully, giving a powerful wine with a remarkably silky texture.
