The winemaking heritage of Maison Trimbach dates back to 1626. Since then, twelve generations of meticulous winemakers and passionate ambassadors of Alsace wines have consistently distinguished themselves through the quality and authenticity of their wines. From father to son, they have patiently built a solid reputation over the centuries. The 13th generation joined the estate a few years ago.
Their vineyards are located along the Ribeauvillé fault line, which runs through the vineyard from north to south, from Rodern to Turckheim. Seventy percent of the vineyard (60 hectares owned) is mainly concentrated around the villages of Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, and Hunawihr. The Ribeauvillé fault line offers a mosaic of exceptional terroirs, including complex limestone rocks such as "Muschelkalk" (shelly limestone). It also features marl (clay-limestone or limestone-clay), Vosges sandstone, migmatites (a mix of gneiss and granite), and more.
The vines have an average age of 45 years. At this stage, the root systems are fully established in the soil, revealing its full complexity and unique characteristics.
An exceptional terroir located on the Grand Cru Rosacker in Hunawihr, this Clos, owned by the Trimbach family for over 200 years, spans 1.67 hectares.
The vineyard, over fifty years old, enjoys a south to southeast exposure on a subsoil dominated by Muschelkalk limestone (shelly limestone) and yellow limestone.
These conditions give this Riesling its distinctive aroma and remarkable fruit concentration, enhanced by a refined touch of minerality on the finish and an incredible length — hallmark traits of Clos Sainte Hune after a few years of aging.
With an annual production averaging just 7,000 bottles, it is a precious wine coveted by Riesling enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
The Clos Sainte Hune, known for its exceptional aging potential, only reaches its peak eight to ten years after bottling.
