The Estate

In 2008, Miguel Martinho Afonso acquired a small 1,5 hectare vineyard on the plateau of Listrac-Médoc, bringing the best of grapevine techniques to his place due to his work as a manager of vineyard services enterprise. This passionate winegrower devote himself to his vines the same level of requirement as that acquired from the Grands Crus Médocains.

Since then, the property, somewhat enlarged, has shown a remarkable improvement that gradually has been standing out in the elite of the wines of denomination.

100% Merlot, out of 0,30 ha of vines

Aged in French oak barrels

The story of L'Unique is quite... Unique. This cuvée was produced only in 2016 on a 0.37-hectare plot leased by Mr. Château, who was the owner of Château Larruau (AOC Margaux) at the time, to a prestigious Grand Cru Classé from 1855. For the 2016 harvest, the new management of the prestigious château wished to renegotiate the lease contracts with Mr. Château, but the negotiation took too long. An agreement was not reached in time, the harvest arrived, and Mr. Château asked his friend Miguel from Château Martinho to take care of everything, including the winemaking.

Thus, 1200 bottles were produced from a plot that would normally be part of the blend of a Grand Cru from Margaux..

The wine is elegant on the nose with floral and toasted notes. On the palate, a beautiful texture captivates, offering us a Margaux with a fine structure. It can be cellared for another 10 years.
