Since 1385, the Antinori dynasty has been shining a light on Italian wine. Originating from Florence and specializing in the trade of silk and wine, they have been deeply involved in local life, both politically and culturally. The Antinoris have a Midas touch, turning everything they engage with into gold.
The wines began to gain international recognition in 1873 at the Vienna World's Fair, where they won a jury prize. In the 1960s and 70s, Antinori wines embraced the "Super Tuscan" movement (age-worthy wines in the style of great Bordeaux), and names like Solaia and Tignanello began appearing on the finest tables.
The first vintage of Tignanello dates back to 1970. Made from a typical blend for a "Super Tuscan" (80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc), it is aged for nearly 14 months in French oak barrels. It is a very full-bodied wine, bursting with aromas. Powerful and rich, it also succeeds to be refined and fruity in certain vintages. It has tremendous aging potential.
