The Estate

The Domaine de la Janasse was established in 1973 by Aimé Sabon on the ruins of the family estate, which had previously sold its grapes to the local cooperative. Since 1991, his son Christophe Sabon has taken the reins of the 90-hectare property, consisting of around 60 plots in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône, IGP Principauté d'Orange, and Vin de France.

Due to its fragmented structure (more than sixty plots), the Domaine de la Janasse spans a true mosaic of terroirs. A meticulous study and research effort on the soils, their exposure, and the microclimates have allowed for an ideal organization of the vineyard. The white grape varieties and Syrah are preferably planted on sandy-limestone soils with Northeast exposure to preserve their freshness, acidity, and finesse. The Mourvèdre vines planted on clay-limestone soils covered with pebbles achieve a very good level of maturity.

Today, at the top of the pyramid of the best producers in the Southern Rhône Valley, the Domaine de la Janasse produces harmonious, refined wines that are capable of aging for several years in the cellar.

From Grenache vines planted in 1912 for the oldest - mostly on sandy soils - this cuvée was punched down daily during maceration, followed by aging for two-thirds in large oak casks and one-third in demi-muids. Notes of black fruits and violet, with beautiful tension on the palate and well-integrated tannins.
