If you ask most sommeliers and connaisseurs to draw a map of the Loire Valley, all of them will forget to point Haut-Poitou. In the South of Tours, Ampelidae was established in 1995 and produces organic wines out of their 170 hectares of vineyard. Their fine wines, (Le S, PN 1328, and Le K) come from their best plots, and are produced in limited quantities. Multiple containers are needed for the aging (oak, new and old, concrete egg, stainless steel, and terracotta jars) of all of the fine cuvees. On some great vintages, the wines can age 20 years or more.
2016 was an exceptional vintage all over France, and the Haut-Poitou, with its Loire Valley influence and its Nouvelle-Aquitaine location, really benefited from it. This 100% Pinot Noir is a dark, concentrated, succulent Pinot. To be opened at least 2 hours before the meal.
