Le Domaine

The story begins in 1924, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Upon his marriage, Georges Roumier settled in the village of Chambolle-Musigny, renowned for the finesse of its wines.

His in-laws entrusted him with several plots of vines, nestled in exceptional appellations such as Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, Musigny Grand Cru, and Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru "Les Amoureuses." Georges Roumier dedicated himself to these vineyards with great care, refining them year after year to capture their every nuance. A pioneer of his time, he even introduced estate bottling when the wine trade was still dominated by merchants.

By the time his son officially succeeded him in 1961, Domaine Georges Roumier had already established its reputation for excellence. Jean-Marie Roumier continued to build upon this legacy, expanding it further. Two decades later, his son Christophe, a trained oenologist, joined the family venture. Together, they began bottling their entire harvest starting with the 1983 vintage.

Since Jean-Marie’s retirement in 1990, Christophe Roumier has carried on the family tradition alongside his sister Delphine. Their journey remains deeply rooted in the land, driven by a singular goal: the perfect expression of the terroir.

Manual harvesting and sorting, with 70% destemming. Punching down is performed during fermentation, which relies exclusively on indigenous yeasts. No enzymes are added. The wines are neither fined nor filtered. They are aged for 16 months in oak barrels ranging from 2 to 8 years old, with 25% new oak.

This Chambolle is a true gem: round, smooth, with a subtle hint of sweetness. It is both alluring and profound, offering a journey into red fruit aromas enhanced by an elegant floral bouquet. On the nose, delicate notes of acacia emerge, while the tannins stand out for their finesse. We recommend cellaring it for at least 15 years to allow it to fully unveil its potential.
