This Yquem neighbor belonged to monks when it was classified in 1855 as a 1er Cru. Since 1984, it belongs to the Rothschild family, also ower of Lafite and Duhart-Milon in Pauillac. The current chai was built in 1989 and allows Rieussec to experiment with longer agings. Like Yquem, Rieussec does not produce on vintages where the quality does not meet their standards.
Rieussec is one of more opulent Sauternes, thanks to its long agings (sometimes 24 months). Caramel and vanilla notes when young turn into more safran aromas, typical of old Sauternes.
