If wines have been produced at the château since the 14th century, it is truly since the arrival of the Cathiards at the helm of Smith Haut Lafitte in 1990 that has propelled the wines of this Grand Cru Classé into another dimension. On 56 hectares, the Cathiards produce world-renowned red and white wines, thanks to an advanced environmental approach, their own barrel production, a weather station, as well as cutting-edge wine tourism offerings.
Predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Smith Haut Lafitte's red grand cru is aged in 60% new oak barrels. The aging process takes place over 18 months. On the nose, this is a wine of beautiful elegance, with notes of blackberries and undergrowth. In the mouth, the concentration is impressive, with a superb tannic structure and a controlled woody character. The finest vintages of the estate produce superb wines worth forgetting in the cellar.
