Mouton Rothschild is the only estate who succeeded to change the famous 1855 classification by moving from the second rank to the first. This Pauillac icon known in the whole world - even to those who are not necessarily wine enthusiasts - is also famous for its label design, since they ask an artist to draw it for a given vintage. They are also known for being the first château to bottle within the property in 1924, when it was done at the wine merchants' warehouses in the past. However, Mouton is most and foremost a gigantic wine, whose excellence and consistency amaze year after year.
Since we are in Pauillac, Cabernet Sauvignon is an important part of the blend, resulting in a wine with aromas of pepper, licorice, and blackcurrant when tasted young. After years in the cellar, it will develop a bouquet of leather, jammy black fruits, mint, and tobacco.
